Science & Spirituality
Many times curiosity arises, what is the relation between science and spirituality. In our SAPTARISHI group Pawan Sarda raised the subject whether science and spirituality is complementary, dependent or contrary. Other members of our group Dr. Prabodh, Acharya Aditya, Rajendra Singhi, Sanjay Trivedi and Sudha Agarwal deliberated on the matter. Based on the discussion my understanding about the subject is as follow.
Science is study of the object and spirituality is the study of the subject. For scientific progress we need buddhi (brain) and senses for spiritual enlightenment we need to use Buddhi (Mind) and Soul. Science is study of outside world and spirituality is quest for inside journey. So if we look at the purpose than we will conclude that both are contrary to each other.
Vedant says do not believe what people say. Experience yourself before believing any thing. Find out the cause and reason for everything and do not follow any thing blindly. Science also says that there is a cause and effect. So if we closely observe the process of science and spirituality we will find that it is same. Science and spirituality both want to know which is already there but so far Unknown. Only areas are different.
Science and spirituality is also dependent on each other. A spiritual person can not survive if he refuse to use the things which are developed by scientists and scientist when reaches to a point where his logic and knowledge is not working, he surrenders to spirituality.
Mr. Pawan rightly believes that ‘What’, ‘How’ & ‘When’ are answered by science but the ultimate ‘Why’ can only be answered through spirituality. Consciousness (which is the basis of spirituality) begins where science ends. Science believes: Everything is false until proven true. Spirituality says: Everything is true unless proven false. ‘Belief’ is scientific but ironically, science doesn’t believe in belief.
