Teams Need Leader
A great project is completed or event is over and we hear that it was a great team work. Even the person who was leading it overtly or covertly will also say with modesty that I have done nothing. It was a team work. There is no doubt that one person can’t do the big projects alone but at the same time it is also true that 100 people will do nothing if there is lack of direction.
When the birds flies in group or animals walk in herd or ants are on work, there will be one among them will be leading towards goal. Some times leader will be autocratic or may be democratic but leader will be there if the project or event is completed with great results or organisation is operating efficiently and effectively.
Leader will be sometime like pendant in neckless or thread in garland but leader will be there. However it is the prime duty of leader to set vision, give direction, keep motivated, give credit to members and take blame for failures. Leaders need to be flexible according to team, time and situation but not flexible towards goal. Whether one need to lead from front or behind or hidden depends on group, situation and time.
It is also important to know whether my role is of leadership or I need to follow someone. Role changes some timer in same project or event but if you lack wisdom and flexibility to adjust, you may be cause of failure for the entire project. Change your leadership style based on situation and this is called situational leadership.
